Carlos contacted me late last year and said he was ready to start on a commission for me. When we began discussing the subject matter I gave the option of something Dark Judges related, or something Ghost related with Papa Emeritus III. He said Papa III looks interesting, but he preferred the Judges. Then he suggested that maybe Papa III vs the Dark Judges. I said I thought that was pretty cool, since the Papas have been compared to the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. So then he suggested a 4 x 4 versus piece with Judges vs. Papas. I of course agreed.

When he sent a scan of the finished piece I was blown away. The subject fits his detailed style perfectly. Papa I vs. Judge Mortis. Papa II vs. Judge Death. Papa III (in his dressed down tuxedo outfit to give a little contrast to the piece) vs. Judge Fear. Papa IV vs. Judge Fire.

Who will win?

Ghost is dropping their new album ‘Skeletá’ April 25th which of course means a ‘new’ lead singer (Papa Emeritus V). They will support this with a world tour starting April 15th. July 9th is the first date of the US leg. I only have tickets to see 3 of the shows on this cycle. I highly recommend checking them out. Who knows, maybe I’ll get tix to a 4th concert.

Dearmas' talents are on full display here in this stunning illustration/commission, congrats on the awesome result on this piece. the 4 x 4 layout of the characters against each other is really cool along with the unique subject matter!
