DescriptionDC Challenge #1 by Jerry Ordway. Got this in a trade with Marcus Wai. It was a really cool trade and Marcus was quite generous and patient. The series was different and enjoyable. This cover by Jerry rocks! Thank you Marcus!More info: DC Challenge was an experimental limited series published from 1985 to 1986. Each chapter was written by a different author, and drawn by a different artist, and would end in a cliffhanger (sometimes multiple cliffhangers) which the next creative team would have to resolve. DC Challenge was intended to be "continuity free" and does not fit into the canon of Earth-One, the mainstream DC universe of the time. Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Compendium states that the events in DC Challenge took place on Earth-Thirty-Two. Since the main characters are for all practical purposes identical to their Earth-One counterparts and the story involves variants of Earth-Two, Earth-S, etc as well, we have indexed it as if it happened on Earth-One rather than create a whole host of redundant pages for Earth-Thirty-Two characters. Really cool piece! I love seeing Ordway’s work from that era, and the whole concept behind DC Challenge was such a wild idea. Must’ve been a blast (and probably a headache) to work on, in theory. Definitely a unique moment in DC history. Props to DC for even thinking of attempting such an idea.

These are really fun issues to read. I discovered them when I acquired a cover from the series as well. You have an AMAZING example here. Always love a face-off between two groups of characters, especially when you get Supers, Bats AND Wonder Woman!

Outstanding cover to DC Challenge #1 by Jerry Ordway! I love these covers that have face-offs between teams of characters. You've got so many characters to enjoy--Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Riddler, etc. Nicely composed cover with an interesting design--A question mark set inbetween the teams that is itself a window to a cityscape. Gorgeous work by Jerry Ordway , who's one of those unheralded artists who did so much work but has received little attention for it. But his art was always well composed and well drawn and he handled a lot of assignments. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
