Description
A DC cover????? Whose galley did you stumble into!!? Nope you are in the right spot. I really think these 70s horror covers are fantastic . I had a Cardy one.. and talked myself into selling it when I wanted something else because “it didn’t fit my collection” … then I started poking around to get another and the prices kind of sky rocketed! What had forever been very under appreciated is now get the due they deserve. Luckily a friend was selling this one for a pretty sweet deal! And it’s a dynamite one too! Dominguez does a wonderful job as usual painting a scene here … the burning boat… a shark.. death waiting at the bouey … what could be more scary! So much detail in the night sky and oven too.. no short cuts taken here. If Luis worked on a super hero comic we would probably be calling him one of the greats of the era!

Dominguez captures the tense situation and elicits emotions of terror from the audience as there is no hope of escape this time!  He knew how to press the buttons for the covers that would get us to buy the book!

Love this Witching Hour cover by Luis Dominguez! It has so much tension on it, between the guy's boat sinking and the shark chasing him and the hooded skeleton on the navigational buoy offering him a bony hand. Luis Dominguez drew a number of horror books for DC back in the '70s and on this one he really brought his "A" game. I really love Luis' brushowrk here, from the splotchy technique he used on the ocean waves to the extensive crosshatching he used in the sky and on the creepy skeleton hanging onto the buoy. His work is so well done I wonder if he would've been drawing covers and stories for the old EC Comics back in the 50s. He would've been perfect for it. Great pick-up, congrats!

Lovely job by Dominguez, a real master of (DC) horror. A wonderful, suspenseful composition. The water effects are great too, with a mix of broad and feathered brushstrokes. Great cover!
