Dampyr #172 (2014) pages 39-40: Cannibals, or Satanists?

The gangster Mario lists upcoming legislation that he wants a crooked politician to oppose:

“Stricter controls for drug dealing in the areas of San Basilio, Tor Bella Monaca, Laurentino… our best neighborhoods. There is even a plan to increase the penalties. Do you want to bankrupt this ‘award-winning’ business that you’re a part of?”

“You don't have to worry, Mario. It's stupid. I'm already taking care of it. The proposal won't pass; you'll see.”

“I really hope so. Do you have any idea what a problem that would be?”

“Yes, I’m aware.”

“Right when we have other things to worry about.”

“Are you referring to what happened in the Coppede neighborhood?” (The massacre of Mario’s men which opened this issue)

“Rumors travel quickly.”

“Rumors? It's all over the papers! They thought it was some satanic ritual that ended in a firefight, but I know very well that they were your men. Just who are you up against?”

“Just some competitors.”

“The bodies of your men looked like they were torn to pieces by some wild animal! Does a tribe of cannibals have anything to do with this dirty story?”

“They're just some fanatics who kill in a lurid way, like some mafiosi do. Listen to me, mister big shot politician. It's best that you just mind your own business. I’ll look after life and death of my gang, now and always. So says Mario Leone.”

I wonder whether the gangster’s name comes from Mario Puzo and Sergio Leone.
