Dampyr #172 (2014) pages 47-48: An un-sneaky vampire

Olimpia Maidalchini was an inexperienced vampire. She was not sufficiently discreet in her depredations, resulting in her capture by the peasantry:

“Somehow they must have managed to stop her. Palmieri himself explains the legend of the fiery carriage as an ambush into which the inhabitants may have dragged Maidalchini. Wounded by the flames, the vampire would have been very weak, and this allowed her to be locked inside the crypt, most likely following the rites of some popular belief. The inhabitants of San Martino al Cimino unfortunately did not know that they would have had to finish the job by destroying the body.”

“It would have been enough to leave her exposed to sunlight!”

“Exactly. Keeping her underground had the unintended effect of saving her.”

“Such a ferocious and greedy woman. I wonder what she could do, in today's Rome.”

“Look!”

“What is it?”

“Palmieri has reconstructed a plan of the properties that Olimpia Maidalchini had in the Celio neighborhood. Below there is a very large network of underground passages, ideal environments for a vampire to hide undisturbed. The area is very large, but we could take a look.”

“Let's do it.”
