Description

Olimpia the vampire is infatuated with her henchman Sergio and moves in for a kiss:

“If I could, I would make you like me, and we would stay together forever. But unfortunately, only the Masters of Night have the power to create undead. I can merely feed on humans.”

(Sergio frowns and wipes his mouth while her back is turned.) “Have you found out what happened to your Master?”

“That's exactly what I wanted to talk to you about. His name was Verdier, and we had specific agreements, business ones. I would leave him my property, including two million scudi, and a place of honor in the Roman nobility. Verdier in exchange would make me an immortal creature and then set me free, without forcing me to be part of his pack. However, as soon as I left that crypt, I looked for news of him.” (The visuals here are a flashback which depicts Verdier vampirizing Olimpia, as well as Olimpia's escape as described earlier in this issue.)

“Were you able to track him down?”

“In France I came into contact with some undead, and I discovered that Verdier was killed by a Dampyr.”

“A Dampyr? What the devil is that?”

“It is the child of a vampire lord and a human.”

We've already seen Sergio's affection for his wife and son. His relationship with Olimpia seems decidedly one-sided, but she's his boss.

He's working hard for that Christmas bonus.

Oooh, I hope this issue gives us even more Verdier back story, if he was killed by a Dampyr I wonder who or if that implies it's someone we know like Harlan. Those 3 panels were a welcome distraction to the sexual harassment in the workplace panels that preceeded them!

Harlan killed Verdier in Dampyr #10. I have not read any stories in this series which featured other Dampyrs, but I have only read a small percentage of the total.

Sergio: Three days ago, I loathed you. I used to dream about you getting staked by a Van Helsing. Then we had our little adventure up in Alaska and things started to changed. Things changed when we kissed. And when you told me about your tattoo. Even when you checked me out when we were naked. But I didn't realize any of this, until I was standing alone... in a barn... wifeless. Now, you could imagine my disappointment when it suddenly dawned on me that the woman I love is about to be kicked out of Roman nobility. So Olimpia, marry me, because I'd like to date you.

I have a feeling things will end badly for Sergio once his boss realizes where his true affections lie.
