It's not that unflattering if you've seen his early TV appearances. But Galactus as an Earth devourer does look more handsome.
Yes, he was already known derisively as Tricky Dicky when he appeared to look the part -- ashen, visibly sweating, and not looking at the camera -- during the 1960 Kennedy-Nixon presidential debates. I edited the description to note this might be among the first times a US comic depicted a president in a negative light, which isn't surprising given the political and social upheaval of the time period.
Great Galactus page. The way he reaches out his hand like that, with a commanding presence, almost as if to say "I am not a crook!", is fantastic. Naturally, you bought a page in which warfare is present!
Haha. Now that you mention it, the war part was more of an unconscious factor. What appealed to me most, besides nostalgia, is that it's a nice example of Buscema and Sinnott FF, it's presidential -- complementing my Sgt. Fury page with its albeit positive portrayal of President Johnson -- and has action, Kirby-style machinery, and Galactus.
Although the Nixon panel is cool, Galactus using the word, "charade," pronounced with two soft "a's," is even more, well, "fantastic."
An English actor portrays Galactus in the movie! Maybe his lines include "charade!"
Galactus, Nixon, Buscema and Sinnott!? - I think you have the only one on the planet!
FANTASTIC (pun intended) FF page by Buscema and Sinnott! Galactus and Nixon on the same panel page is certainly unique. congrats Peter!
Great page from a great story--peak Fantastic Four right here!
So 70s
Super cool page - what a combo - Galactus, Sue, and Nixon. This page would make a great "Comics Jeopardy" question!
A Buscema and Sinnott from the early 100s is cause for celebration enough. To have Galactus and Nixon on the same page is quite remarkable. Congratulations!
Awesome page! Love the Tricky Dicky cameo
1!
2!
3!
AND 4 for Fantastic Four Art! Congrats Peter!
Amazing Galactus page! Marvel classicism!
Great page with so much to love about it--Big John doing Galactus, the perfect caricature of Nixon, and the intense sense of chaos that comes with Galactus' attack on earth. Marvel magic!
Sweet page. Panel 2 is killer!
