Description
Avengers #214 page 26
Art by Bob Hall and Dan Green
Written by Jim Shooter
Marvel Comics - September, 1981

This is my first published bronze age page and I'm super happy to add my favorite page from the issue with Johnny Blaze wielding Mjolnir and taking on the Avengers, which at the time included Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and Tigra. In this issue a troubled Ghost Rider takes down Angel, so the Avengers come to see what's up, and get caught on their heels while GR battles the bunch.

It was cool to see this issue was listed # 6 on CBR's Best Underrated Avengers Comics list. Many thanks to Guillaume for allowing me to own this page.

Zarathos schools Odin's favorite son with his own toy! Man, that Mjolnir is a fickle ally.

Congrats on such a stellar addition to the collection, brother!

Congratulations on picking this up. I remember this issue well and Green adds a lushness to Hall's artwork that wasn't always apparent in other work from this era.

Prototype Cosmic Ghost Rider with this new powers unlocked!  Thor is shook that Ghost Rider has a relationship with Mjolnir.  Maybe Thor shouldn't have went to the Coldplay concert without Mjolnir.

Thor learned that Mjolnir's B Side is just as unpredictable as Coldplay's...

What a freakin' cool page!  I love the artwork, as Bob Hall is a personal favorite, but I just go gooey when I see things like the browned-by-age lettering paste-ups.  The visible age of a piece, to me, makes it special.

Bringing new meaning to the term "Drop the hammer!"

Also, if I am Ghost Rider here, and I have that hammer in my hand, best believe I am jumping something with it!  Fantastic page, George!

Love it!  Vintage Marvel action scene storytelling from Hall and Green and gotta love the GR/Thor mash-up!  Mayhaps more bronze coming?  Hard to stop once you stop - trust me!  :)  Congrats!

You know, when you look at it, GR didn't actually 'wield' Mjolnir.  To my mind, that would involve picking it up, swinging it around, etc.  What happened was, he grabbed hold of a Mjolnir in motion, and it pulled him along from the ride.  Once the hammer's motion stopped, and he would actually have to hold it, it broke from his grip and returned to Thor.

I've always hated the idea that ANYONE but Thor would be allowed to wield Mjolnir, ya see...

That's a hilarious sequence, and Hall makes great use of the initial two shallow and wide panels - very cinematic. From his expression, I'm not sure Thor has really been humbled - but then he rarely is! Great fun.
