Batman: The Last Halloween #8 pg.10-11

Becky Cloonan is a master at creating creepy atmospheres, which this double page spread from Batman: The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween proves. I had the opportunity to see the originals for the whole issue prior to its release at Lake Como Comic Art Festival 2025 and knew I had to have this double page spread. I especially loved the creepy house and trees, as well as the homage to Tim Sale in the last panel.

The Last Halloween is an interesting series with revolving artists on each issue. The artists are taking up the reigns from Tim Sale to finish the Long Halloween trilogy, and each artist does their best to channel Sale without mimicking his singular style. My understanding is that each artist was a friend and/or someone whose art Sale respected. It's such an honor for any of the artists to be involved. Becky told me about her first encounter with Tim and how nice he was to her as an artist just getting started. She sprinkled some Tim Sale Easter Eggs throughout the story, but this double page splash has the best one, in my opinion. The art on the wall in the final panel is an homage to one of Tim's famous prints of a woman with a black cat.
