Description

Young Brian Bolland cut his teeth along with Dave Gibbons, working on this strip aimed at the Nigerian comics market.

Power Man (AKA ‘Power Bolt’) was a black African superhero, and was aimed at Nigerian children, with a view to encouraging reading and literacy.

The strip was eventually gathered up and reprinted by Eclipse comics/Acme in the States. At the time of writing, I understand a new collection is planned for the U.K.

This is an early character design. A4 size, pencil and ink on Bristol board.

Ver nice touch having the lighting from behind where thicker shadow lines can affect the front features more. Very nice perspective to have the left arm trail back so there'd be a nice point of interest to balance your attention.
