Open Space #3

I wondered what Don Simpson did after he took a hiatus with Border Worlds in 1990.

This mini-series reminds me a lot of 2001 Nights which was translated by Viz shortly after this started. But in this case it's an anthology of stories with some recurring characters showing the trials and tribulations of mankind as the Earth has been mostly depleted and humans are setting up viable colonies on new planets mostly spearheaded by mega corporations like Astranet.

Some interesting ideas in here, and a lot of the stories were written by established sci-fi authors and co-edited by Kurt Busiek of all people. But these are some super wordy stories and this was 1990 so Marvel cancelled it before it could reach whatever conclusion it was meant for. This probably would have done better under the Epic umbrella but it was still cool that they tried out a 64 page per issue, square bound, anthology in the heyday of the superhero 90s.

Twice-up size on a 13 X 20.5 inch board. In some ways I like the prelim almost more then the published page. Simpson's art really shines without all the text there.
