Description
Original cover that this recreation was based on is by the wonderful Al Wiseman, 1953. This and my other recreations are not for sale and were done for my own personal enjoyment.

I've been having fun recently trying my hand at high-end recreations for the first time. I used vintage 2-ply Strathmore Bristol paper, vintage (up to 50+ year old) pencils, non-repro blue and red pencils, dip pens, Windsor and Newton Sable brushes, inks (when appropriate), and other vintage materials and tools wherever possible. The cover was aged (in an acid-free method) and the stats / trade dress are reproduced as closely as possible, not only in size and placement but in paper weight and quality with added aged rubber cement staining . My goal, both as an illustrator myself and as a collector of vintage original comic book, children's book and magazine art from the 1950s-1970s was to create something that I’d happily hang in my studio beside my Al Wiseman, Bob Clarke, Kelly Freas, Bob Bugg, Ernie Colon and other originals.

I also, though, made this piece in such a way that it could not be mistaken as original - including first that it's at least 1/2” smaller than the original cover at that time (although this exact cover isn't known to exist anymore as far as I could find), is not signed with the original artists name (would have been "Ketcham"), have full accreditation on both the front and back of when and who created it, the original artist is credited on the back and has all the recreation info and credits as well and copyright info written in permanent pigment based ink to prevent fraudulent use. EDIT: I've also added the word "RECREATION" in fluorescent white ink (virtually invisible under normal lighting conditions) in a number of places within the actual art itself. When viewed under blacklight these glow brightly and mark the art as a recreation.
