Description
When you look at the Summers brothers, Scott is the successful one, Vulcan is just plain nuts, and Alex is the failure of the family. He may be book smart with a graduate degree in geophysics, but in all other aspects of his life he's a hot mess. Can't seem to get it right with Polaris and I'm not going to get into his obsession with the Goblin Queen. I think he's written this way for two reasons. 1) To make Scott look that more impressive as a team leader. 2) To drive the story plots. If he actually thought things through more, a lot of the villain's plans would fall apart quickly.

In this series he once again quickly falls in love with the wrong woman and gets manipulated by the villains. In spite of only using his small head until the end, Wolverine still manages to save the day and Alex doesn't mess things up too badly.

In spite of all of his shortcomings, Alex is still my favorite X-Man. Maybe it's his shortcomings or fact that he still keeps trying to do the right thing even with all the weight of his past failures hanging over him that makes him such a relatable character. And boy does he ruminate a lot on those failures!

Getting a Muth painted piece was on my list for a while now. I missed a few Meltdown pages before, either being the under bidder or they didn't quite convey the moody atmosphere I wanted. This one was perfect with the charred bodies and the smoke billowing out. The control panels are all paste-ups.

These Muth paintings don't come around often.  The series was some of the first fully painted prestige comics and garnered a lot of acclaim as the quality and artistry was experimental for its time.
