Description
This is definitely a unique piece in my collection - this is the cover for the hardcover collection of the Marvel 1602 series done by Scott McKowen done on a scratchboard that really captures the period setting of the series. I really love this series and the ideas that Gaiman brought out in the Marvel setting where things were very familiar but just a little different. This piece has a very distinct look to it due to the scratchboard. It's also very cool to see the top and bottom where he was trying out some different designs looks like.

This is a larger piece 12" x 16" and reportedly references on an image of the conspirators from the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. See, learning can be fun!

Feels like it is a work from that time period when traditonally hand done illustration was documenting history.

Dying to see one of these scratchboard pieces from 1602 in person sometime. The scan is gorgeous.
