DescriptionHarry Wood (1870-1943) is a cartoonist most folks aren’t familiar with, but Wood had a very sweet feature, The Intellectual Pup, that ran for 36 years in the Kansas City Star. Wood was a really good pen man, and there are elements of A.B. Frost and Edwina Dumm in his work. The set-up for The Intellectual Pup was a standard one: pup gets involved in some goings-on; trouble ensues! This particular five-panel installment appeared June 11, 1914, quite early in the feature’s run. This is the only complete “strip” original that I’ve ever run across by Wood. Each panel measures 8”x7¼”, with the condition being solid Fine overall. One panel is a hair more toned than the others and another is missing a small corner piece, outside of the art area.
