Description
GI Joe: Cold Slither 1 cover
Art by Steve Beach
Skybound & Hasbro - October 1, 2025

I don't own a lot of painted art but I couldn't pass this one up. It's large at 16 by 24 inches by the very talented Steve Beach. Steve has been delivering some beautifully painted covers for Action Comics, Creepshow, and beyond.

I had forgotten about this group, but loved seeing them jump from the 80's G.I. JOE cartoon (and a Transformers episode) to the comics pages of Image/Skybound Comics as part of their Energon Universe, which was teased as "The Greatest Band Ever Reunites in G.I. JOE: Cold Slither #1."

Ripper (lead guitar), Zartan (singer/bass), Buzzer (drummer), Torch (keytar) made a big return this year with several big announcements in July 2025 at SDCC for the new limited action figure set from Hasbro (see the additional images section), a vinyl record, a special live performance, and this one-shot comic!

"Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with leading games, IP and toy company Hasbro, announced the all-new comic book one-shot G.I. JOE: Cold Slither #1 from the head banging band of writer Tim Seeley (Rogue, Local Man), artist Juann Cabal (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), colorist Rex Lokus (Aquaman), and letterer Pat Brosseau (Batman and Robin). The loudest G.I. JOE launch of the year will hit comic book shelves on Wednesday, October 1, 2025." - Skybound.com

They've come to infiltrate the minds of the world, so watch the 80's Cold Slither music video at your own risk:

These guys redefine the term shredding! Love the colors used here, this band does 80's spandex justice. I also get some WWF Ultimate Warrior/Macho Man color themes which channel that era wonderfully. The music video only gets better once they bring out the big guns! That keyboard has seen its last day :)

Look when I was a kid, there was only one band. COLD SLITHER! It was almost like an evil mind control device used by an army of terrorists had taken control of my mind!

Amazing painted cover, love the colors! Sounds like a fun one shot and project overall with all those added products being released as well. And who is going to be performing as the band live? You should be in it! ;)

This cover has 80's glam rock written all over it!  The comic itself is a VH-1 styled Behind the Music doc and brings us up to date with them.  Skybound does the Joes right and so does Beach!

I've really been impressed with the few covers I've seen credited to Beach, and this is the latest one to impress me. What a great, musically infused piece of comic art!
