Description

As soon as I got the email from Jiggy about slots opening up for John's Atmosphere series, I had to jump on it. Those slots went QUICK! I am over the moon that he went with Bioshock, one of my favorite games of all time. Not only did John capture exactly the vibe I was looking for, he executed the scale of it perfectly!

I put forth a handful of prompts/characters to choose from including Bioshock and Firefly along with a quote from LOTR.

"The examples from the Atmosphere series all evoke a sense of being alone in a very big world -- if possible, could he do something that combines that feeling with a sense of struggling hope? Like the famous quote from Lord of the Rings:

Sam: It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?

Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for."

You can feel yourself immersed in these worlds!  John Amor illuminates just enough to bring that feeling of being lost.

Truly outstanding! This game was epic and just the idea to apply it to this specific commission series is wonderful! Amor works so much into the piece it's worthy of a sequel. Congrats!

I love seeing pieces from this series show up on CAF. Your fantastic description really does it justice. The scale of these pieces has been allowing John to express feelings and emotions that we don't often see in regular, 'large scale' character pieces. Thanks also for the giant scan - I had to get in there to appreciate how John managed the lighting effect. Genius!

So much artistry and skill present here. This is worthy of publication. More should see it
