Captain Marvel #20 (2020) pages 14-15: Bringing the hammer down

In this spread from Part Three of the "Accused" story in the Kree-centric event "Empyre," Carol Danver is having so much fun being an Accuser that she grants Accuser hammers to three of her friends: namely, Spider-Woman, Hazmat, and War Machine. Together they defeat Walter "Wastrel" Lawson in his spectacular, tentacular spider-machine.

Smith's pencils follow his underlying blue line printed layout to greater and lesser degrees. The upper right panel of Carol getting blasted has particular energy as she bends without breaking. Her pose reminds me of Wolverine on the cover of X-Men #142, though it's not identical. Thankfully she survives, whereas he did not.

Hazmat was the breakout new character from the Avengers Academy series, and she acquits herself well here as an Accuser. Not guilty!
