DescriptionIt’s insane to think it’s been 20 years since Young Avengers was released and received all that (deserved) positive buzz.This is a nice half-splash from the first series featuring the evil Super-Skrull. In the first panel, he is impacting the ground after being thrown out by Stature when he flamed off to escape her grip. The very tilted angle of both the whole scene and the speed lines of the impact chosen by Cheung really enhances the violence of the impact. He kept that angle for the second panel that features the whole team as it gets ready for the upcoming confrontation when its foe is done recovering. I love the depth of that panel with characters in the fore, middle and background. The chose angle allows Cheung to really stretch the scene and effortlessly fit all of them despite the limited space. An amusing fact that was sadly covered by a word balloon, Iron Patriot is tending to Stature burnt hands, a nice detail that show Cheung’s thoughtful attention to storytelling. Then the money shot as Super-Skrully comes out of the ground, super menacing. He must be a super fun character to draw as the artist can play with a wide range of power set and visuals, here the Thing’s and the Torch’s flaming hands (maybe Mr Fantastic as well as that right fist looks pretty big to me). All those swirling fumes really add tension to the scene in a great visual way. That last panel with a close up on the sadistic skrull is excellent. I really love his hypnosis eyes here. All the elements within the page point to the right but his tilted head really prompts the reader to turn the page here. Cheung’s art has become more and more expensive these past few years so I’m glad I was able to pick another YA page early on as it’s clearly a series he will be associated for the rest of his career. Ah, a great Super Skrull Half-Splash. Now I see why you didn't go after Jason's Super Skrull Double Page Splash!

I enjoy Cheung's art and really like his linework. But as you mentioned, the price has kept me away. Very nice page with that great shot of Super Skrull.

Fantastic Super-Skrull from a great YA arc! I especially love the eyes in the last panel.

Young Avengers. Young Adults. Heinberg and Cheung made these books to have the YA audience while still entertaining to the Marvel faithful with stories that connect to the legacy. Doesn't hurt that Cheung's art here is world class.

Cheungs art for this series really matched well, his dynamic characters and fun designs really did this series justice.

Wow! Cool Young Avengers page by Jim Cheung! That half-splash of the Super Skrull is absolutely bonkers! Love the image of the Skrull with his right hand ablaze like the Human Torch and his left hand hardened liike the Thing and his eyes....Fabulous inks on this one. Great pick-up, congrats!
