Description

Whoops! I thought I had posted all the pages I could from this book, but then I found more. Here's part of the sequence in which three saboteurs are planting bombs inside the (eventually) ill-fated dam. The scene begins in the “Third External Sector of Water Main Control. Thirty miles west of the Great Dam. Underground Maintenance Tunnel R 516.”

Page 24-25 “You're taking too long.”

“There's more electromagnetic interference than expected. I need to increase the shielding on the detonator.”

“Two minutes, and I’m done.”

(In the control room) “Security section here. Incursion confirmed. Hidden cameras have tracked the saboteurs to tunnel R 516. They are at mile marker 30. They are planting an explosive on the water main. Security to response team. Confirm?”

Page 26 (Security boss Larry Frost with Nathan Never.) “Response team here. Confirmed reception. We are in the tunnel hub waiting for the saboteurs. When bastards will pass through here, we will give them a nice surprise! As you can see, we are prepared, Agent Never. You Alfa Agency guys are superfluous. No offense.”

“I remind you that we are here on orders of the security council, Commander Frost. Water main sabotage is a very serious matter that affects the entire population, and it happens too frequently.”

Page 27 “Are you accusing me of something, Agent Never?”

“Not at all. But your security teams need help, which is why we at Alfa Agency have been called. You may in charge of the operation, but my colleague and I intend to do our own duty as well; am I clear?”

“Crystal clear, but like I said, you won't be needed.”

(Saboteurs in the tunnels) “It’s done. Device planted and shielded. We can go.”

“All right. Then we proceed as planned. From the junction ahead, we take the service tunnel to the designated exit point.”

Page 28-29 (security team) “The saboteurs have activated the bomb and are making their escape.”

“Very well. Order the drone to deactivate the bomb.”

“The drone is done, sir. The explosive has been deactivated.”

“Great. Commander, the explosive is no longer a problem. They’re all yours.”

“Copy that.”

(saboteurs) “I can't wait to get out of here!”

“Not much time left now.”

“This time we'll leave our mark.”

“Let's say it loud. We've planted enough C-6 to shake the earth.”

Page 30 (Frost surprises the saboteurs.) “I think not! Dam security! Don’t play any tricks. Put your weapons on the ground.” (They don't move.) “Did you hear me? Drop your weapons!”

“I think that instead, you will let us go. If I activate this remote control, we will all be submerged by a flood of water down here!”

“Do you really believe that, dummy? While we intercepted you, we were already deactivating your device!”

“It’s true. The bomb has been deactivated!”

“Damn it!”

“Now you've tired me out!” (Frost shoots one of the saboteurs.)

“Aargh!”

“All right, all right. We give up.”

“Very good. I see that you can always reason with baddies.”

However, a second, undetected bomb explodes, and the saboteurs escape. Nathan says that he finds Frost reckless and overbearing; Frost doesn't think much of Nathan either.

Their chances of survival are much better at 4:25 than 4:20 ;)

I'm seeing a clear "talk to the hand" gesture in panel 2!

Nice, classic SF look. The contrast between the grizzled, angular face of Commander Frost and the snooth features of Agent Never sets up an interesting dynamic.
