Description
I didn't plan it like that originally... Honestly, I thought I would keep it quiet on the collecting front. But, then, I was stopped in my tracks by this gorgeous splash by Paul Pelletier! I mean, how can you get more classic than this, with that scene in 3 phases: Clark Kent rushing to a dark
back alley, opening his shirt to reveal THE logo and then the gorgeous lift-off, with a tight-jawed Superman spriniging into action...

Ah! The simple joy of it...

In fact, I didn't realize how much I was missing such a scene till I saw this page, the best Paul Pelletier page I have seen!

Thanks Fred for the deal!

Update - November 14th, 2025 - I just read the sad news of Andrew Hennessy’s passing… and I can only agree on the comments about him made by Paul Pelletier on this site! Andrew certainly was a great inker, and his talent is fully demonstrated on this page!

Thanks! I agree: some extra exposure would certainly help giving Paul Pelletier his right status! I think this page is a great example of what he does best!

Wow! It doesn't get much more classic than this! What a gorgeous Superman page by Paul Pelletier! This one has it all--Clark Kent running into an alley to change, his shirt being torn open to reveal the big "S" and finally, Superman lifting up into the air! Love Paul's style here as well, it gives the iconic scene a little more contempoarary look. Andrew Hennessy's inks really add a lot to the look. Superb pick-up, congrats!

Thanks Bill! Yes, as a all-in-one silent page, I find this one hard to beat! That's why it grabbed me!

A great angle for the cityscape scene to show off Superman's flight. The feet and whiz lines seem very reminiscent of Neal Adams to me. Nice splash.

Thanks Paul! I'd say there are worse sources of inspiration! Neal Adams drew some mean, iconic Superman covers, back in the days... Mmm, yes, this one could be considered as cover material!
