Crazy cool Venom drawing by Erik Larsen! Clearly he had a lot fun drawing this one. Great pick-up, congrats!

-KILLER- Venom, Steve, raw and -completely- alien! Larsen always draws a compelling symbiote, but this one is so genuinely creepy... The way Erik inks the musculature makes everything look like Eddie's tromping around wearing raw, black meat... with that terrifying, toothy maw that's gaping too... too... wide... And, as always, it's The Tongue that puts it over the top. It looks like it's constructed of segmented chitonous plates, like a Brood's underbelly or something. Imagine that, snakelike, wrapping around you... Eeshk!
Being OA collectors and long-time comic readers, we've all seen our share of symbiotes, yes? It's really easy to forget how truly, skin-crawlingly creepy they can (and should!) be. There's a genuine need from time to time to be reminded of this fact, to re-frame our perspective and reboot or refresh our appreciation of the character (to say nothing of the heroes who will stand in their way to protect us), and for me that's exactly what Larsen provides with this piece. (Do you have any idea of when he drew this?)
Not only a great October / Halloweeney add, Steve, but a real gem of a Larsen Spidey mythos piece! (The second artist to ever draw Venom in a monthly book - ASM - after McFarlane, right?) Congrats, man!!
