DescriptionI’ve been unsure about posting this since I received it. To me, it marks the end of my pursuit of original art in the way I’ve approached the hobby since I started collecting. When I began my journey, I never imagined I could afford a published piece by Frank Miller. Over the past 24 months, the fair market value of his work made that desire seem impossible.Frank Miller’s work stirs something in my soul. Maybe it has to do with his run on Daredevil coinciding with me being in my last 2 years of high school. He was creating a comic that was pushing the boundaries of what the art form would morph into - stories for young adults. I was becoming a young adult. Fast forward to 2017. I start looking at the OA hobby and I am shocked by what Frank Miller’s fair market value is on pieces. Yikes! When I first started collectIng his work, I decided I would focus on Frank Miller pieces that fit into my budget and match my experience level. Most of those pieces I’ve acquired, like many other pieces in my collection, have never been posted on CAF. My Miller collection began with a comic book - remarked by Frank Miller, followed by a convention sketch. Then I purchased a sketch from a private signing. Later, I stretch my budget to buy the commission (the Captain America peace) I’ve posted. It was purchased in an auction. It wasn’t done for me. At that point, I continued to buy sketches or pieces that caught my eye, but I never thought that I’d be able to add a published work to my collection. Then, by good fortune, I was able to acquire this particular piece. It was created to benefit the firefighters widows, orphans, and disabled firefighters fund. Mr. Miller generously allowed the fund to use the image on T-shirts, along as it being used as the organization’s logo and branding. According to HA.com the party that provided it to be auction off donated their proceeds to the charity. It’s taken a lot of words to get to my point. I landed the piece that fulfills what was supposed to be unreachable. I never thought this would happen. I doubt that my perspective on that will ever change. I feel a bit lost, but not in a bad way. I come to the conclusion that having started in 2017 by buying the Capullo McFarlane Spawn Splash and ending it with this Frank Miller piece in 2025 is a very nice set of bookends to surround my collection within. I hope that everyone in the hobby has as much luck and joy in adding pieces to their collection as I’ve had!! (I’ll start posting art I own but have never shared on CAF. That seems like a safe way to remain a part of the hobby that I enjoy.) As always, thanks for looking. (If you read this I appreciate your time!) Social/Sharing |

Meaningful work by Miller! It is beyond the typical art tied to a storyline as it is tied to real life heroes and the story of us.

A great FM piece for an amazing real life cause adds even more meaning/importance to this one. Congrats on finally adding your published Miller piece in your collecting journey! And looking forward to seeing what else you share in the future.

Great art and description! You never know what the future holds. Other comic art collectors have thought that they were done acquiring new art after getting a special piece, only to return when encountering other art that spoke to them!

While that might happen, getting this piece really took the wind out of my sails in adding additional art to my collection. Toss in the cost of OA and it is a hobby that is quickly moving in a direction that I can't afford to be a part of any longer.

Fabulous Frank Miller Tribute to Firefighters! Frank's work has always celebrated heroes, whether it was Daredevil or Batman, Ronin or Marv. So it seems very appropriate for Frank to draw this awesome tribute to real life heroes. It was Firefighers who went up into the Twin Towers when everyone else was trying to get out. All over the world, Firefighters put their lives at stake every day for the rest of us. What a meaningful piece of art to add to your collection. Congratulations!
