Absolutely beautiful work by Grell at his peak! I also love the stat of NYC Grell dropped in, but how on earth can Manhattan be seen just over the man's shoulder when they're in the middle of the African plains?!? Ah! He must be reflecting back to the past in that final panel!
An aspiring mercenary in my high school (or maybe just an admiring future gun enthusiast, never really pressed him on which one) introduced me to this book our freshman year. I remember how the art showed through the coloring and lettering but there's so much more detail in these pencils. It's stunning.
