Description
This whopping 14 x 21 inch drawing was likely intended as the table of contents page for Badtime Stories, but someone whose initials might have been, say, WG, just might have objected to its use. After all, Ron Barlow, the mastermind behind Badtime, worked with Mr. WG to reprint old EC horror stories around the same time.

Whatever the reason, Wrightson wrote, “Ron, great! - W” on the back of this page and then gifted it to his good friend.

Had he been twenty years older, Wrightson surely would have been an EC horror artist. The symbolism present in this graveyard scene is hard to miss.

Many thanks to Bechara of Nostalgic Investments for the opportunity to snatch this gem!

P.S. Some folks out there think this was intended to be the cover to the EC Hardcover book rather than Badtime. Feel free to weigh in.

It's like Wrightson took his time to study the hands of cadavers to commit every sinew and every rotting detail to memory.

The hands are typically contorted and crisply inked by Wrightson. But I really love the looser shading on the arms, making it such a flowing piece. Lovely work.
