What a great time period! After the fall of the Soviet Union, there was the rise of thrillers in fictional or real world worries. Stories to deal with rogue agents and the proliferation of smuggled nuclear weapons across the world to terror organizations or rogue nations became more ripe for dramatization. Iron Man seemed to fit the bill with his own technology that could be exploited by friends and foes alike.
