Description

Hannes Bok cover art for the pulp magazine Science Fiction Quarterly - Fall 1942. It illustrates a scene from the novel "Brigands of the Moon" by Ray Cummings. It looks like during production the printer took the background to white and they added a paste-up of a larger rocket ship in my opinion. It was also published as a color plate in the Hannes Bok II portfolio (Gene Nigra, 1975).

Great early sci-fi! Pioneers like Bok created the blueprint for the genre. Even in outer space, man still finds reason to hate another man. Alluding to WWII and how its lessons would not change human nature in the future.

Bok did amazing sci-fi work. Especially stunning to see it rendered in full colour!
