Nikolaus explains why he's not much help rescuing Hanneke from the Dark Team: “Also, thanks to me, their allies Belyalis and Melkiresh are no longer actively serving the forces of evil. Nergal and his acolytes now see me as a traitor.”

(Melkiresh was turned into a marionette in Dampyr #54. Belyalis was imprisoned in a grandfather clock in Dampyr #23 and then banished from Earth in #50.)

(Caleb Lost) “As for the girl, she's in no danger at the moment. She's a 'precious hostage,' Sonderling said. And they intend to use her to capture you, Dampyr.”

Unaware that Hanneke has been located, Tesla searches Prauge from the rooftops. Her phone call to base is unsuccessful: “I can't get through to the theater. What's going on? With all his powers, why can't Caleb invent some form of telepathic communication, like the Masters of the Night have? Maybe they've already found Hanneke... and I have a strange feeling I'd better go home immediately. American comic book heroes like Batman and Spider-Man always find what they're looking for just by wandering across rooftops, but in reality, you don't..."
