DescriptionWhile Thanksgiving is a time for family, what I give thanks for is my friends.Good friends Michael Wm. Kaluta and Charles Vess shared a studio and collaborated on this project. An excellent friend remembered that I liked this gorgeous piece and offered it to me when it was ready for a new home. All of you make this hobby an absolute joy, and make my life better. Happy Turkey Day! 🦃 P.S. I'm excited to get this framed. I love everything about it. The internal framing with the arch, the magnificent color play, and thoughtful decisions that have been made everywhere. This piece sets the stage for an entire novel, inviting the viewer to enter and find out more in an exotic, far-away land. Iftah Ya Simsim. In fond remembrance of friends we have lost. Absolutely gorgeous! incredible collaboration between 2 legendary artists. The hazy colored sky and the lighting in the scene is so nice, curious how you will do the framing and I'm sure it will look awesome on display. Congrats and Happy Thanksgiving!

It's amazing how a piece can have a muted pallete and explode with color and life at the same time.
It's also pretty cool how the artist can use almost 30 percent of the space just to frame the rest for us, and it makes the rest feel special. It's almost as if it's down a tunnel of opportunity that the story-telling part of our brain says "go through there and join the adventure!"
Very amazing piece.

Look into my paints, then look again
These Kaluta games, It's different
To tell your tales and Fables, you couldn't wait
You need a new clean place without the rent
A page to put arch frame, your consequence
When you look into Kaluta are you even there?
I don't wanna Snowfall your sweet Vess 'cause I'll tell
Iftah to love being alone with myself
I don't know how long I'll be Troublesome
I know you tried your artists I know that you Thankful
But you pushed me to the edge and a script and then novel
I don't know how long I'll be holding on

Beautifully moving words, Mikail, and this piece is worthy of them: it is stunning. A Vess/Kaluta dream team joint, from which (I have no doubt) you can feel actual heat and warmth radiating. Wow... look at the gradation in all the different shades of red in the palanquin and its bearers, and the subtle way the shade and shadow plays into the archway as your eye moves across and up it...? Breathtaking!! The archway framing here (the perfect color to ground the piece) gives an amazing sensation - darkening as the viewer's eye climbs it, even as the sky behind it is lightening - it's a testament to the masters at work/play here. And it reminds me of an enormous keyhole we're looking through - a direct portal of entry into a wondrous, mysterious land I can't wait to explore. But I can't get over that sky, and my favorite thing is the small flock of birds taking flight in the distance. Beautiful. Three times now (as I glance over to another browser window in which I have your piece open) I swear I have seen the wings flapping... but I might be mistaken...? Or maybe not...? Michael and Charles show us here that The Real is often the best place to set The Fantastic, and this piece is unquestionably both. Wow, Mikail - amazing pick up - sincere congrats (and I hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving)!

Is it weird that I think the sky is the best thing about this page? It's all good, but that sky.
