Dampyr #70 (2006) pages 95 and 98: A date with death

Officer Marchesi was just murdered by an unexpected hand:

(Baldwyn)“Marchesi! Who…?”

(Teresa Perez, now a vampire) “Hello, commander. So you came to save me, my hero. I expected it, you know? What a shame it's too late… to save yourselves.”

“Teresa! Nooo…”

(Kurjak) “Get down, Baldwyn!”

“Emil! Dear Emil! What a pleasant surprise! Didn't we plan a date in Iquique, you and I?”

(Kurjak reluctantly shoots her.) “I'm afraid… I’ll need a rain check.”

Page 96 (Even with a knife sticking out of his heart, Condor is tough to bring down. He stabs his sword-cane through Harlan's right hand, pinning it to the floor.) “Ah!”

“You are unarmed now, Dampyr. You wounded me… but didn't killed me! I will finish you off, but first… I want to see you… your face!”

(Harlan's skin is much more healed than Condor expected.) “Something wrong, Condor?”

Page 97 (Condor grabs Harlan and squeezes him.) “Ahh! Damn you! I'll crush your bones. You'll die before your poisonous blood can reach my body!”

(But Harlan has another gun hidden in the back of his waistband. He pulls it and shoots Condor repeatedly at point blank range.) “Yyyyaagggh!”

(Erwin) “He's… yes, he's melting! It's incredible!”

“The trick with the hidden second gun worked. It was tough to lure him into a melee and hit him in the heart up close.”

“Your wounds will heal soon, like the burns. Even the Condor was surprised to find you without a mark on your face.”

“He had underestimated the regenerative power of a Dampyr. How are you?”

“I’m all right… wounds of the body don't matter… but those of the soul will take a long time to heal.”

Page 98 (Kurjak) “Teresa… I had to shoot her.”

(Tesla) “She would have preferred it that way too, soldier boy.”

(Erwin) “I'm sorry. In a well-written story I should have died instead of her… and left the scene.”

(Guerrero) “But things are different in reality. You can choose to resume your life from where the Condor destroyed it. We will help you.”

“You?”

“Francisca and Diego agree. My son has always liked you, Erwin.”

“Call me Edgardo. Edgardo Lopez.”

(Kurjak) “A murderer who goes straight? Can he be trusted?”

(Tesla) “Erwin was a slave to the Condor's lies. But Edgardo Lopez is now free to choose a new destiny.”

(Harlan)“If a vampire can change sides, why not a killer?”
