Description

Pages 78-79 Carolyn Powell begins to tell Nathan her father's secrets, but Frost shows up to arrest her.

Pages 80-81 “Police! Open the door!”

(Nathan) “What the devil is going on?”

(Branko) “Hm, I’ll check it out.”

“Frost? I've gotta tell you, you’re really wearing on my last nerve. What’s this intrusion about?”

“Intrusion, my ass. I'm here with a special police warrant to arrest Carolyn Powell.”

“Arrest Carolyn Powell? On what charge?”

“Suspected terrorism. I have a proper warrant. Here it is, issued in writing by Prosecutor Malsky of the third judicial section.”

“This is absurd.”

“I am not a terrorist, and neither was my father!”

“Yeah yeah, of course. We'll see if the judge believes you. In the meantime, follow us without making a fuss!”

“I won’t do it. I'm not coming with you!”

(Frost pulls his gun as she runs.) “Dammit…”

Pages 82-83 (Nathan swats Frost's hand as he fires.) “Are you nuts? Drop the gun, you clown!”

“You'll pay dearly for this!’

(Nathan punches Frost.) “I think you need to clear your mind… like this!”

(Frost's goon) “Bastard! Now you’ll see…”

(Branko smashes his head into the wall.) “Hold on, you… That's not the way to do things, okay?”

“Branko, the girl!”

“She ran away like a flash. I'm taking the interior stairs!”

Pages 84-85 (Nathan calls out the window.) “Carolyn! Don't be afraid. We'll fix everything! Trust me! Carolyn! Stop! Carolyn!”

(While driving away, Nathan reports to Solomon Darver.) “We couldn't find her, Solomon. She disappeared into thin air and took the disk with her father's message. That Frost guy is a real piece of work. He almost killed the girl.”

“You should know that he reported both you and Branko to the Security Agency's disciplinary department. I'll try to have the complaint suspended, but this is serious. Did you realize that Frost had a regular warrant as a police deputy to arrest Carolyn Powell?”

Pages 86-87 “Well, it seemed to me that he was there to get rid of her. When Carolyn ran away in fear, that bastard pulled out his gun and tried to shoot her, no holds barred!”

“You may be right. That guy seems shadier and shadier with each passing hour. Maybe Larry Frost is just a violent security chief, but Sigmund's investigation found something more concrete.”

(Sigmund) “Powell's body has been transported to the coroner of our city's Second Section, Nathan.”

“Seems like a small detail to me. What's wrong?”

“It is a detail, actually. And I had missed it, but… Powell was killed in New Alamo, and his transfer to a coroner here can only happen at the request of a relative. Without that request, the coroner at New Alamo would have to proceed with the autopsy.”

“Carolyn Powell, the deceased's only relative, has not made any specific requests.”

“…but her father's body has been transported here to the city for an autopsy.”

“That's right. Section Two, as I said. The person in charge is Dr. Leonard Cevok.”

(Branko) “Leonard Cevok… his horoscope for today must have predicted a very bad day.”

“Yeah, and there's nothing worse than a visit from two very pissed off Special Agents!”

Pages 88-90 Under pressure, the coroner Dr. Cevok confesses that he often takes bribes to falsify autopsy results. Max Powell really died by drowning and then was frozen for transport to the hotel where Frost shot his thawed corpse. Did he have a case of "Frost-bite"?

You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the Frost hand and wonder if you'll Never see Nathan
You close your eyes and hope that this is just illustration, girl
But all the while you hear a terror creepin' up behind
You're outta time

'Cause this is Never, Never night
There ain't no second chance against the inks with Bonazzi lines, girl
Never, ooh, Never night
You're fighting for your life beside a Never, thriller tonight

Simple seeming, yet highly effective inking. Especially like the escape-balcony shadows.

Great viewing angles throughout this page, with the slant in the second panel really helping to convey the precariousness of a balcony dash.

Sweet Carolyn, Good times never seemed so good. Nathan's been inclined. To believe they never would. Oh no, no.

Really like the shadows and background elements built into those initial 4 panels, makes the final panel without any background stand out too - I'm also getting Howard Chaykin art vibes from that final panel.
