This Place Kills Me sketch by Nicole Goux, Alameda 2025

      Artist Nicole Goux was at the Cape & Cowl Con at Faction Brewing. The event is organized by Cape & Cowl Comics in downtown Oakland. I had listened to a podcast where Nicole spoke enthusiastically about collaborating with writer Mariko Tamaki on This Place Kills Me so it was an easy decision to buy the book. I enjoyed this event located in a former aircraft hangar at the onetime Naval Air Station Alameda. I drove past the Skyhawk gate guard to this historic site. The B-25 bombers were loaded aboard the USS Hornet CV-8 to start their journey to Tokyo in 1942. The successor Hornet CV-12 is a museum ship after operating in World War II and picking up Apollo astronauts after walking on the moon.
