Doozy!
Those old Marvel Age covers are very nostalgic for me. This was the first glimpse that I got of Alpha Flight. After the cover to #1, I'd peg this as my favorite AF cover!
A wonderful grail and tribute!
This should have been the cover to Alpha Flight #1 IMO. Great piece, Nick!
Thanks buddy!
Supreme jealousy alert! Yup.. I admit it. This is too cool. Just an amazing addition! Huge congrats!
Ohhh, c'mon! One of Byrne's greatest ALPHA FLIGHT images/covers of all, loved when the gang was all here, and I give the edge to this cover over the one used, biggest congrats!!
Agreed, It's stronger with the focus just on the team, but both are classic!
AF grail is right!
A stunning cover, Nick! And really appreciate you sharing the back story on why you posted.
Thank you brother
Wow, congrats Nick! An amazing addition to the collection.
Thank you Riz!
So, awesome! Thanks for posting it!
Incredible, Nick! Congrats!
Thanks buddy!
Fantastic! Remember this cover well.
Yeah, it's why it falls into grail territory. It's a strong word, but meaningful here.
Awesome addition to a stellar collection.
Such an excellent vintage Byrne Alpha Flight team shot. Top notch Byrne Alpha Flight! Congrats
Great introductory image! Byrne got us pumped for the new #1 X-Men adjacent team with this image! Game recognizes game!
Nice and succinct! Thanks Marcus!
Amazing cover. This is both iconic and sentimental. Kudos.
Thank you Rick!
Many thanks Alberto!
Fantastic cover!
Thanks Vik! It's been a bit. How are you doing?
Classic Cover! I remember it welll. Major Congrats!!!
Fantastic Alpha Flight team cover, congrats Nick!
Grail worthy indeed
Historic! Impressive piece, and very clean inks. Congrats!
Amazing - congrats!
I see it and I can't believe it. In fact, I'm starting to experience an inception: this must be the product of artificial intelligence.
Very nice description. A great tribute as well! Superb cover by the way.
One of the most memorable Alpha Flight illustrations of all time! The sentiment is as valuable as the art!
It is, and thank you, including the advice.
Touchdown !
Nice cover. Wonderful memory.
Now that is THE Alpha Flight cover, simply the best!
So awesome!
Nick, the historical and artistic excellence of this piece is exceeded only my the wonderful friendship and memory of your dear friend. Many congrats, my friend.
Thank you so much my friend.
Amazing Cover and Tribute! Byrne is a master and that image still sticks in my mind as well.
Well looky here. Taking down grails and sharing is always a special occassion.
Very awesome, congrats!
Bad @$$! Congrats Nick! Just a classic cover!
wow, a stunning piece of John Byrne artwork and one with so much more meaning than just the surface of it. congrats on this incredible grail that further deepens your connection to and memories of your dearly departed friend.
Thank you buddy!
Absolutely beautiful cover by Byrne. Love this era with his own inks.
Absolutely fantastic.
John had good taste and so do you.
Incredible cover piece and a great way to honor your friend, John, Nick. Cheers!
Incredible addition to an already stellar collection!
That certainly is an alpha page ;-)
My jaw just hit the floor. Congrats for this phenomenal historic cover ! Byrne at his absolute best imho.
Alpha Flight was (is) a great concept. Interesting characters, different location from the usual NY base, great visuals. This is one of the best depiction of the classic team
It's always bittersweet for me when I see one of my old pieces pop up. While it's always nice to see them again, there's also the understandable pangs of regret that one gets about selling something that he perhaps should never have sold. At the time, it was the most money I ever got for a piece of art (but a bargain in today's market). I paid $200 for it back in 1987 and sold it about 5-6 years later. Anyway, as per your description, I'm in the camp that thinks this is as good (or even better) than the actualy AF #1 cover. It was also used as a house ad and promo poster. So in terms of publication and exposure, this piece got a lot more mileage than that actual #1 cover. I wasn't a huge fan of anything Byrne did after his glorious X-Men run, but I made an exception for this one. So congrats and enjoy! It really is a magnificent Byrne example.
I know the feeling of selling one of your babies and then seeing it later. The memory is always strong. And thank you for the reminder on the poster. I forgot about that.
This is epic!! This should have been the #1 cover - it's the best single Alpha Flight piece there is! Huge congrarts to you Nick! This is right in my sweet spot - so I'm a litlte jealous!! lol
Thank you brother!
A Seminal Acquisition! Kudos!
Love when a piece of artwork has multiple layers of meaning. For me this is a super nostalgic, grail-worthy piece that represents the magic of early 80s Marvel (which Marvel Age tapped into so well, I loved that mag!) and the excitement of discovering that world as a child. Congrats!
Yeah, Marvel Age was great at the time. Outside of CBG, there were few places to get news. Marvel Age filled that gap.
Wow. I can only imagine the tariffs on this one.
Grail in every sense of the word. The art and your personal connection to your good friend John, the previous owner. Love it!
LOVE it! Thanks for sharing.
Finally made the CAF Roundup spotlight - congrats!
Oh, and this art is amazing - better than the cover to issue 1
Impressive! Huge congrats for this gem!
Hat Off and Huge Congrats !!!
Thank you very much!
EPIC!!!!
Thank you
Wonderful!
Phenomenal! This version of the Alpha Flight #1 cover is waaaayyyy better than the one that was used, IMHO. What a cool memory of John it brings you. Treasure it. Friendship is a precious thing.
Add me to the list of folks who prefer this piece over the Alpha Flight # 1 cover! Congratulations on a wonderful original and one that could not have a better home, given your relationship with John Cassaday.
Congrats on achiving this grail, Nick! I can see why you categorize it that way. Great stuff from Mr. Byrne.
