Love this very familiar cover image!  The lighting and color choices are so arresting and effective here.  The rule of thumb I hear so often is that foreground elements should usually be brightened and indicated in warmer colors, while dimmer and cooler passages recede into the distance, but Freas goes the other way here to great effect.

Great lighting by the fuse that's about to blow!  You can tell from the expression that this circuit repair isn't going as he hoped.  The claustrophobic and desperate feeling is enhanced by the emergency orange lit background that will only go away when the repair is done.

Impressive painting!  Freas had a very distinct color pallette.  One of the best I've seen.

Amazing work by Freas.  I love the added touch of the plyers floating in zero gravity.

Amazing work by Kelly Freas! I always loved his Mad cover paintings, but I had no idea he was such a talented SciFi cover artist! I am blown away!
