Description

Sensational comics!  An enchanting 11x17 take on Wonder Woman by Michael Kaluta. I really dig the sweet spirit of lightness and energy that courses through this one thanks to the the kind smile and beautifully fine Kaluta lines.  For some reason, Diana is holding up four fingers on her left hand and two fingers on her right... as though signaling the number 42...?

The original commissioner of the piece had scored it as a backer reward during the Harry Palmer Starstruck Kickstarter campaign, and I had asked them if there was some reference point there (their backer number, a special request, etc.) and they didn't know of any.  It was then that I realized I really needed to brush up on my Starstruck lore, as I -thought- there was some non-Douglas Adams significance to the number "42" in Starstruck, but... well, it's been a while.

A fun afternoon of re-reading awaits, but whatever the reason for the 42, I'm truly thrilled (and sincerely grateful) for the chance to display this fantastic piece here. Thank you once again, Steven!

Lovely Kaluta Wonder Woman illustration! Simple, clean lines, and highly detailed where it really counts. Excellent! Maybe the "42" is a reference to Jackie Robinson! Probably not, but I just kicked off the theorizing. congrats on the piece - great score.

See it shown Kaluta’s line
See the arms twist to her side
I'll wait four two
Sleight of hand and twisted babe
With her fingernails he illustrates
And it’s great with four two

With four without you
With or without two

Quite the score, it’s Starstruck lore
Two and a four but I want course
And I'm waiting four two

With four without you
With or without two, ah-ah
I can't live with four without two

I was going to say she was paying homage to the legendary Jackie Robinson, who famously played for the Montreal Royals, as I'm sure everyone surely knows! But then as I scrolled down to rea the comments before posting mine, I saw that our comrade Kavi already thought of that himself. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that as lovely and enchanting as the figure and facial expressions are, she's actually throwing up gang signs. Vatos Locos forever, ese!

Ooooor......she's giving Kaluta the big "Fuck You!" for drawing her with 6 fingers on the left hand. Either way, the enchantment of the piece overrides everything else, so just enjoy it!

She's dancing while flying. She looks like a muse or a faerie. So delicate a line. Beautiful.

What's really striking about this is how much of a real woman is portrayed here - it's like we know her.

Not sure when Kaluta piece but it feels like a (welcome) throwback to an earlier era of Diana's history when she didn't always have a sword in her hand and an angry look of determination on her face. Wouldn't it have been nice to see Kaluta draw an annual of this particular WW and in this style in the 80s or 90s?

Regarding your description it is clearly a shadowy cover up (or should that be hair and head cover up?) of illuminati proportions. The hidden fingers are hiding the truth and the truth is 42. Am I talking gibberish, that is 4 you 2 decide! Dear God, theres another badly hidden 42 in my comment. Did you spot it?
