Black Canary by Chris Samnee

Ordered from the artist during his Fall 2025 art drop.

There were two Black Canaries in the drop - - a classic one, and this "boxing stance" one, which looks to me like the Birds of Prey version of the character. Maybe she's in the middle of a battle in Roulette's arena... or perhaps she's training with Ted Grant/Wildcat. Either way, with the lights flaring in the background and the fierce expression on her face, Canary is ready for action.

What more can be said of the incredible usage of black-and-white by Samnee? It harkens back to the great mid-twentieth century newspaper strip illustrators, combined with a modern-day freshness and an almost Toth-ian simplicity. Samnee is one of the best.
