Description
This big piece (35x30") started life as a commercial illustration (presumably for an oil company) made in or around 1977 (Note: an early Black and White rendition appears in the 1978 book 20th Century Foss - See additional picture).

Interestingly enough, it looks to me that the main body parts of the construction have strong graphic connections with the impressive spaceships Chris Foss was rightly famous for!

Whatever, I think the mix of this imposing structure on top of the raging sea, stuck between crashing waves and a lead-grey sky is powerful on its own and a great example of Chris Foss' considerable talents!

This is another one that came to me through family connections. I owe them a big thanks!

Thanks Rick! Who said industry could not generate great art? At least, Chris Foss knows how to do it well!

Awesome!  Instantly recognizable as a Foss piece and I love the movement, big shapes, and atmospherics

It's as impressive as a massive space ship!  Reminds me of those History channel shows explaining massive modern machines!

Thanks Marcus! In fact, while maybe lesser known, Chris Foss had an extensive career in designing industrial artefacts, which obviously permeated his Sci-Fi approach... In this piece, I feel that the two influences are blended together to great effect!
