Description
BATMAN & HIS ROGUES - I don’t know what to say about this one. People who know, have seen this kicking around my studio since 2019. It was originally supposed to be in color, but I couldn’t bring myself to add color to the piece. It needed to be in black and white. It’s HUGE, 30 x 40 inches. It’s been in through a few different studios. Started, reworked, abandoned, then brought back to life only to go through that process again. I have an adversarial relationship with this piece. I’m not sure if I beat it, but I wanted it to be the first thing I finished for 2026, for better or for worse.

This is next level awesomely insane goodness!  You beat it alright, you whupped this thing and made it sing your name!  Has anyone put bubbles in Freeze's helmet before, making it liquid instead of gas?  That is inspired!  And that Poison Ivy...she would definitely need poison to seduce and control, OOF!  :) Whose skull is Hatter holding?  This is INTENSE!

First of all, I'm glad you didn't color it.  Anyway, congratulations on finally "finishing" it.  I can only imagine what a journey this way for you.  As far as you "beating" the piece or the piece beating you, really only you can say.  I'm not an artist, but I'm certainly familiar with the concept the no piece is ever truly "finished".  When an artist finally decides to stop working on a piece, it's not because he's done or that the piece is done.  It's just his relationship to the piece is done.  In that sense, no painting or drawing is every truly "complete".  Technically, they're all just abandoned at some point.  I think it was Barry Windsor-Smith who said something to that effect.  I was privileged to see this in one of its earlier stages.  I wish I had locked that memory in my mind so that I might be able to compare the two versions.  I can't recall if I knew it was begun in 2019, but that's a huge chunk of your artistic life.  Anyway, I don't know if you're pleased with the results, or even the journey it took.  But I'm sure you learned a lot about yourself along the way.  Congratulations again on seeing it through.

The definition of a masterpiece! So much detail over every square inch. You can clearly see all of the time you put into this and the end result is a leviathan!  Picking up some Sam Kieth vibes here and there and I love it. Huge congrats on finishing this beauty.
