DescriptionToday marks the 5 years “anniversary” of Steve Lightle’s untimely passing. 5 years. To continue honouring his artistic legacy, I give you the last page to the Flash full story I own by him.I surely took my time to post it all but this felt like the perfect occasion to cap it. Lightle makes great use of verticality in his layouts to give us a sense of Wally reflecting on his adventure, on this close to mystical experience he had (which is not clearly explained in the end, which suits my tastes perfectly as it makes room for interpretation by the reader). The first panel is a great “man within Nature” moment. The gigantism of it all as compared to him, the open (line) purity of it all, tiny reminders of human presence (if you except Wally) in those mountain flags crossing over… The second, boldly and blackly delineated, panel offers a great close up/profile of our hero, humbled by the beauty of it, reflecting on the experience he just had. His features are so delicate and that frosty respiration cloud is such a nice and realistic detail. Then that last open panel or splash is just a perfect way to say goodbye to the story, with great shots of the mountain and fantastic Speed Force effects to lead the reader’s eye towards the end point of the story (which is Flash running up that mountain’s edge). The serenity of it all, the profound calm that Wally is experiencing seemed to me like the perfect way to honour Steve Lightle (as he will be forever tied to the character, through this story obviously, but mainly for his fantastic cover run). I really love that Steve signed this last page within the art itself, proof that it was a significant project for him at the time. This also serves to say goodbye to 2025 and make way to hopefully a better 2026. Social/Sharing |

The odyssey is complete. Even more remarkable, you produced a thoughtful writeup for each and every page. 👏

The speed force effect and Flash going up the mountain is the perfect note to end on. A great page of art, and a hopeful end to the story. 5 years flew by since Lightle's passing, and 4 years of occasional rememberance of his legacy through sharing these pages was a touching longterm tribute. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely speed effects, contrasting the dynamism against the still snow. The terrain is rendered so well and with great observation.

A wonderful page with which to cap off the years long tribute to Steve Lightle, as I've always loved the second panel here, which immediately made me think of "hope" and made me feel hopeful. The electricity he leaves behind is also sa nice touch to signal that he's moved on and this is the end. I liked and enjoyed the story when I owned it, but I'm glad I decided to part with it because it ultimately ended up in just the right collection!

Like Lightle, Flash climbed to the summit of the highest peak! So great how the trail of electricity is left behind for us to follow and admire for years to come.

He was having such a relaxing time until Spock showed up, spooked him and made him fall.

This is fantastic, Fred - a beautiful capping page (the summit, if you will) of the full-issue journey that you've been on, sharing page after lovely page from this issue with us. I am a -huge- fan of pages that (through excellent storytelling and the artist's sheer force of will and imagination) fly against the natural reading flow of a page, and Steve's use of stepped vertical panels, Wally's upward glance in panel 2 (and even the stack of text boxes in "panel 3") have us moving from bottom left to upper right before we realize anything's amiss. SO cool. The speed force crackle adds a terrific kineticism and launches everything upwards. GREAT page, FM! A fun way to put a bow on the book and a fitting tribute to Steve and his talent.
