Description
1982 - Netherland comic book
11 x 15 in

City of the damned / Die Stadt der Verdammten / De Stad der Verdoemden / La cité des condamnés.
STORM is a sci-fi fantastic comic book from the early 80s, that the Dutch artist created after the Trigan empire, and after Captain Grek.
Only 3 panels on 1 page are very rare for Don's artwork. I am pretty sure, the major panel will definitely hypnotize you. Just be focused long enough ;-)

Don Lawrence’s art in the Storm comics is celebrated for its meticulous detail, luminous water-colour work and immersive world-building that helped establish the series as a European classic. His pages are rich with finely rendered landscapes, intricate machinery and expressive figures rendered with painterly depth that make each panel feel like a miniature illustration.

In Storm #8 (City of the Damned), Lawrence’s visuals enhance the haunting beauty of desolate settings and the emotional intensity of the protagonists’ struggle, with compositions that draw the reader deep into the narrative’s mood and atmosphere.

Although the character Anar in this page (she is The Computer programmer) isn’t prominently documented in standard character lists for Storm, the series as a whole showcases beautifully drawn companions like Ember/Redhair, whose striking presence and elegant design reflect Lawrence’s ability to convey both strength and grace through expressive anatomy and colour.

Overall, Lawrence’s work—especially in seminal early issues like this #8, combines dramatic storytelling with a visual elegance and finely tuned realism that continues to captivate fans of science-fiction comics.

Eavery panel has its own charm!  Very nice to see the colors turn from cool blue to orange fire in the last intense panel.

Incredible painting work. The panel shapes are creative and work to enhance the angle of each shot within. I like the way the colors shift from panel to panel, with the most intense coloring happening in the largest panel where the action ratchets up.
