Description
Tom Toles (b.1951) was the longtime political cartoonist for the Buffalo Courier-Express, the Buffalo News, and the Washington Post. Toles started at the Post in July 2002, spending 18 years at the newspaper before his retirement in 2020. This political cartoon is from Toles' first year at the Post and pictures George W. Bush about to paint a painting of a forest, except the trees have all been cut down. As usual, Toles showed himself in the corner of the last panel, making a comment about the action. The cartoon was published on December 13, 2002.

I've really enjoy Tom Toles' work for many years, but his originals are pretty scarce. This is the first such original I've owned by him.

I can only guess that's Dick Cheney with him.  A powerful picture is painted for us.  However, the country was more distracted with the war on terror during this time period.

This hits different today given W's post-presidency painting interests, though the core message still holds up.  Congrats, and thanks for sharing!
