Description
EDIT: The news of Sal's passing came to me shortly after posting this page below yesterday. While the news doesn't diminish the words below, it certainly does put a somber twist on the day. My heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Buscema family. Our Pal Sal will be sorely missed and forever remembered.
*****************************************************************************
Happy 90th birthday to our pal Sal Buscema! Sal is the premier Hulk artist in the character's history and my personal favorite artist to draw the Hulk. My opinion, my post, please indulge me!

Sharing this page as a tribute to his great and historic run of issues on the Incredible Hulk title, and to wish the happiest of birthdays! 90 is a big number, but not nearly the number of issues that Sal drew the Hulk, which is well into the 100s (not factoring in all his Defenders issues).

OK, done fanboying, on to the page. This opening splash to issue 232 is permanently engrained into my mind as it is very early in my foray into reading comic books, and the first time I tracked a story line across multiple titles. I started with the Hulk, jumped to the story being continued in Captain America, and then back to the Hulk title. The opening and closing pages did such a great job pulling the reader into the story, just as this image of a defeated Hulk, Cap, and Quasar, as well as a chained Falcon! An early appearance of Moonstone as well as the villainous Kligger (doing his best Kingpin impersonation) and the monstrous Animus set the stage for the issue and demand that you flip that page!

I have a few pages from this era and I am always looking for more, please feel free to alert me to any other pages from this amazing run, especially Hulk 227!

When it comes to vintage Sal Buscema, for me it was three great and epic runs.  The Incredible Hulk, The Defenders, and Captain America.  So awesome to see a title splash featuring characters from all three of those titles.  Especially on his birthday.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAL!!!  Oh, and congratulations Dave!

That's a great way to celebrate Our Pal Sal's big day! A lovely splash, and another nice observation on the excitement of early comic buys - this time following a story that crossed over titles. This one was very memorable, so congrats on getting such a great page from that story!

I owned this Sal Hulk splash for several years in the 00's. I do miss it. But sometimes you have to trade something to get something.

RIP Sal Buscema.  His Hulk was when the character was the most popular coinciding with the TV show.  For that, he'd always be remembered by a geneeration of fans.  This a great one with Sal's Cap that he also had an amazing run with!

What an Incredible addition to your collection of Sal Buscema Hulk art.

Im totally with you when you say he was the best to ever draw ol' Greenskin!

I never tire of looking at his art on the book.

Congrats!

I always love these kinds of images, where a bunch of heroes have been incapacitated.  You just have to know what comes next.  Fantastic add!!
