As I told you when you won this, I think you nailed a good an example of a Werewolf by Night page, regardless of artist, as you can find! But the fact hat you really enjoy the underrated Sutton's work so much just adds to the enjoyment of adding this particular page to your collection. Wonderful stuff for all the reason mentioned!
Nice page! Maybe he should give that Sarnak guy a try. Never know?
What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than a Werewolf by Night page featuring cultists!
Sutton is amazing when given horror to work with! It's really old school style that the genre had been missing for a long time and it looks even more scary like underground art..
I am so grateful that you posted this page and also expressed your appreciation for Tom's talents. He is on my short list of all-time favorite artists, and these two issues of Werewolf By Night are some of his finest work. I also own a page from that issue 9... page 2 and it's in my CAF gallery. Thanks for sharing te art and your panel-by-panel analysis.
A page almost as old as you are! Happy Burthday! 😜 What a stunning beauty, dripping with atmosphere thanks to the KILLER brushwork (SO sublime, whether you're talking fur, bricks, shadows, clothing, or... boils! Eeeew!) and thrilling / fun POVs here (hitting a high gear right off the bat in the wordless panel 3, and knocking it out of the park in panel after panel all down the rest of the page)! The element that puts it all over the top in my aged and addled brain (and I'm sure you can now relate) is the wavy-edged dialogue boxes, locking in that retro-horror feel. Gorgeous Werewolf example, F M! So, SO cool! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Yes, Sutton's style was perfect for horror comics. Nice pick up!
Absolutely stunning! Congrats on the pickup.
Well, this is a great choice for a Sutton horror page! Sarnak was a superb villain, and Sutton infuses the crowded scene with theatrical poses and expressions.
Really dig the ink work throughout this vintage goodie! Congrats!
