Description

In 2021, Peach Momoko's Marvel series "Demon Days" introduced Sai, a sort of medieval Japanese version of Psylocke. This sequel series is something of a spoof on the Infinity Gauntlet story, as Sai goes on a series of missions to retrieve colored gems. Along the way she meets versions of Beast, Galactus, Silver Surfer, and other perennial Marvel favorites. Each issue of "Dimensional Rivals" splits art duties between Momoko (for the frame story) and two guest artists who each put their own stylistic mark on one of the alternate dimensions from which Sai retrieves a gem.

I've been following Ribić's work since meeting him in 2023 at the Lake Como Comic Art Festival in Italy. I had been looking for a page from him that combined strong color contrasts with dynamic figures. The search is over! I selected this extra-large page at OAX 2026.

On this page, Sai emerges from one of several pools leading to different realities. In this reality, she takes on the usual modern "Elektra in black" appearance of Psylocke, including an "X" on her belt buckle (not seen here). She meets Silver Surfer to get what amounts to an Infinity Stone. The pterodactyl-bird in the final panel looks somewhat like the creature which Moebius' character Arzach rides. Its multicolored tail reflects in the water below.

My scanner renders color art a little more red than it should be. I didn't try to change the colors digitally; just see the additional image from the published book, also included here.

Just gorgeous! Loved seeing this, and you, in person at OAX. Esad's colors are spectacular here.

Esad's interior color work is some of the best sequential art of the modern era, and this page captures a sense of adventure that's perfect for a first page.

Truly amazing page! I love it when an artist can take us through a visual and emotional journey without words. Congrats!

A gorgeous painted art interior Ribic page! Wasn't aware of this story approach/concept but it sounds pretty cool with the creators/guests involved. Also I immediately thought of Arzach/Moebius as well when I first saw that bottom panel and was glad you also pointed that out in your write up. congrats on the amazing OAX pickup!

Awesome pick up. Had no idea Esad was doing interiors for this series... I guess now I'll check it out.

A really interesting water effect, adding to the mysticism and strangeness. The overlapping second panel is a nice touch.
