Description
To celebrate Rick Geary, one of my favourite comic artists, reaching a landmark anniversary today I am uploading a selection of artwork – published pages and commissions – I have bought directly from him, with the help of his business associate Mark Rosenbohm (an accomplished artist in his own right), although there is one exception.

I commissioned and received this self-portrait from Mr Geary back in 2017 but I am positive I did not acknowledge and thank him at the time (for reasons I will not go into again; yes, it did go on for that long) so I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mr Geary and Mr Rosenbohm for this terrific drawing, and apologise for taking so long to do so. Sorry! When I requested this subject Mr Rosenbohm replied to me to check if he had got it right what I had asked for; I assume because it was such an unusual request and the only instruction I gave was that it was to be a self-portrait. I especially like the way that in the portrait Mr Geary has averted his gaze. That happened a couple of times during my con-going days when I asked to photograph comic creators – they would look anywhere but directly into my camera.

Happy birthday to Mr Rick Geary!

Frozen in time like how he'd like to be seen for many future birthdays!

Ahh, if we could all go back to 2017 knowing what we know now.

A very endearing portrait. I like the way the intricate background pattern is echoed in the shading on the face and the clothing. It gives the piece a pleasingly integrated feel.

That is a very astute observation. Thank you. I sometimes wonder why something looks just right but cannot put my finger on it. One of the best tips I was given by a picture framer on choosing the colour of a mount/mat for a piece of artwork is to have it the colour of something that appears in the picture that is being framed so the two are harmoniously connected.
