Mark Schultz Xenozoic Tales #12 Cover Preliminary Original Art (Kitchen Sink, 1992). Here's an early preliminary by modern master Mark Schultz for the series later known as Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. This cover rough captures Schultz working through the full composition, mapping out the placement and balance of every element. The bones of the published image are already in place -- the towering column in the background, the central dinosaur, and the tangle of figures at the bottom. Even Hannah Dundee and Jack Tenrec are roughly sketched into position at center foreground. In the upper right margin appears the name Paul Janssen, credited with circulation on the issue, a small production-era detail that adds an extra layer of authenticity to this behind-the-scenes glimpse at Schultz's creative process. Rendered in graphite on onion skin with an image area of 8" x 12". Light toning, 2" tear on the right edge, tape on the top right edge, and significant creasing/handling wear.
