Bill Mauldin - Two Post-WWII Drawings of Willie and Joe - Pulitizer Prize Cartoon Reference - C. 1946

These two pencil drawings came out of an El Paso, Texas bar, Kern Place Tavern. Mauldin visited relatives in El Paso in 1946, so it's possible these were done then. From what I was told, they hung in the bar for decades. You can see that they lived a life in that bar. What drew me to the pair was the inscription on the drawing of Joe: "Fresh Spirited, American Fighting Man --", as it's a direct reference to his Pulitzer Prize winning cartoon from October 13, 1944.
