Description
This is a beautiful page, and I'm very fortunate to be able to own it. This page was gifted to John Cassaday by Frank Miller. I'm going deep in my memory on this, but John told me the story about 27 years ago, so forgive me if I am not 100% remembering.

John went to a comic convention I believe in Dallas where Frank Miller was a guest in the early '80's. I don't remember how young John was at the time, but he stood in line and went up to Frank and told him he wanted to be a comic artist like Frank. Frank was his awesome self, and signed comics for John and wished him luck. As John was leaving, Frank asked the line to hold one second, and he went and got John back, and gifted him this page with the inscription "For John Cassaday - Good Luck! Frank Miller." Frank has always been generous and kind. I respect him a lot for that. Something that makes this page more special is that it's a flashback to Matt being bullied and getting into a fight, and running home to tell his dad that he beat up the bully, but in the next page "Battlin'" Jack Murdock expressed to his son how he worked his fingers to the bone so that Matt didn't have to grow up like his dad. A really powerful sequence of pages. Kind of cool that it was a page of Matt as a kid and the art being given to John as a kid.

With John's passing, in helping Tara and Robin set up sales with Heritage and everything, they allowed me to buy this page. It's beautiful. Thank you Tara and Robin.

A great and very personal reminder of John. Glad it's ended in such an appreciative home, Nick.

(Interestingly I have a page from DD 191 which also has a dedication, this one to Kevin Eastman)

Congrats bud!  Frank was always very generous.  And man, did a lot of creators grow up on Frank.

Amazing story! And a great page. Many artists have trouble drawing kids, and clearly Miller is not one of those..congrats!

Can't imagine the thrill of owning a Miller DD page, let alone one with such deep emotional meaning. Wonderful that this wound up with you.

Hey bud!  Long time!  Hope you are doing well!  Something cool is that it's says $40.  Which would have been all of the money in the world for John back then at that age.  Frank has always been generous.

Before he found his love of hamburgers and mellowed out, Jughead was a real tool.
