My 2026 Ink Recreation of BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH’s pencil prelim for AXUS ON A HORSE.

I INK. THEREFORE, I AM…AN INKER (as Descartes never said): Translating the PENCIL LINES of the COMIC GREATS into INK…just for FUN (and for sale-- sorry, this one is already sold)!
Here’s my newly-inked version of BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH’s preliminary pencil sketch for AXUS ON A HORSE-- formerly titled 'CONAN ON A HORSE'--an illustration published in CONAN SAGA #3, Marvel Comics, 1987. Here’s my unique, newly-inked version (left), with the original pencil rough by the great Barry Windsor-Smith (near right). I also borrowed the building in the background from a detail of another BWS illustration called ‘Robin Hood, Green Man’ (far right) to complete the layout prior to inking.
With apologies and respect to the original artists whose pencils I’ve ‘borrowed’ for these inking exercises. No original pencils were harmed in the making of these pieces. Long live the humble inker!
