Erik Thor Sandberg , Grotesque Nude Figures in Battle - like Hieronymus Bosch, 2006

Erik Thor Sandberg paints a fantastical scene that features nude, grotesque combatants engaged in a bloody battle on a surreal pink, stage-like surface. Some of the painting's subjects have spears and are fighting to keep others from climbing out of an inky black crevasse. Some look like otherworldly creatures climbing out of hell. The work embodies the spirit of Hieronymus Bosch. The work is unsigned and unframed.

Presents very well. Two small scuffs at lower left and lower center; one small, less than 3 inch, horizontal abrasion at lower left near extreme edge. Small area of craquelure upper right, observed primarily under raking light. Not framed.
